It is December and we are beginning the Advent Season.
JOY TO THE WORLD.
This season brings joy but it often brings tiredness, and to some, great sadness. It is sometimes difficult to remember the ‘joy’ at this busy time of year.
We are tired because we put pressures on ourselves to meet the high standard of ‘decorating and present giving’ that our society (the advertisers) shoves at us wherever we go during this holiday season.
It is difficult to have a ‘silent night’— a ‘holy night’ – because we are bombarded with activities and sounds (noise) of the season.
I am one of the main offenders of ‘business’ during this time of year. I LOVE decorating my home. I LOVE trying to get just the right present for the right person. I put pressure on myself and try to do too much. I get too tired and the season is sometimes too emotional.
This is a time of lights and color. It is a time of good will toward others. Advent is a time of preparation. We are preparing for the birth of Jesus – the coming of the Savior of the WORLD – the long awaited Messiah!
We are preparing for someone who will teach us, that God loves us! We are preparing for someone who will tell us. nothing we do will do will ever separate us from that unending love from God.
We are preparing for Jesus, who will tell us that God also loves people other than ‘us.’ Jesus will tell us that we are also to love those people! The message Jesus brings to the world is GOOD NEWS: news that each person born on this earth is a child of God. Each person born on this earth is a person whom God loves! Jesus will tell us to work to recognize the image of God within each person we meet.
Jesus will tell us to LOVE God with everything we have – everything we do – everything we know… and Jesus will tell us to love others and care for them as we care for our own families and for our own selves.
That kind of ‘good news’ will change the world and that kind of ‘good news’ will bring JOY and meaning to our lives.
So JOY TO THE WORLD … even today when the world, (our families, and even our individual lives) are in conflict in many places, Jesus comes to save the world.
Jesus brings a message of GOOD NEWS and GREAT JOY. Jesus brings hope and peace – love and joy to an otherwise broken world.
JOY TO THE WOLRD!
Blessings as you prepare for the coming of the LORD.
